Rolling into the new year it is only natural that one looks to make resolutions and set goals for themselves.
But, what does THAT really mean?
For most, it’s a hastily written list of ideas that will NEVER come to fruition. A list of ideas that, most certainly, will continue to circle the drain of unaccomplishment until next year’s bout of resolution fever strikes again unless you come up with a plan as to how to make these goals happen because, just like faith, goals without works is DEAD!
Now here is where we add the catalyst for change! Insert Melanin and Mental Health’s 2018: Set Dope Goals| Get Dope Results workshop. Hosted at the lovely Hotel Ylem, this workshop laid the foundation for a successful strategy to help reduce stress and meet the goals of everyone in attendance.
We began with time to mix, mingle, and munch! Candid pics and professional headshots were provided by Amber Dean Photography and catering was provided by Kesha Bland of Flavor Fetish. There was not an empty plate in the room! There were several options on the menu for meat eaters and vegetarians alike and for those of you that know me, you KNOW that I love a good salad. All I have to say is… That. Dressing. Was. BOMB!!
Eliza Boquin and Eboni Harris, Co-Founders of Melanin and Mental Health opened the workshop with wonderful smiles and warm greetings and gave everyone an introspective look at why they created the organization. After a short introduction, Ambassadors Danielle Bowman and Justyn Smith gave us the rundown of the awesomess that was to occur and we got right down to business.
Michelle Ngome, the Connection Enthusiast gave us tips on turning connections into credibility and reminded everyone to NEVER be afraid to go back to step one.
Akilah Thomas-Glaspie, the financial guru of Right Way Tax and Financial Services, LLC dropped some serious knowledge about smart choices when forming your business and tax responsibilities associated with different types of formations.
Ian L. Haddock, the Social Engagement Expert who is also a two-time published author brought us back to our centers during a meditative moment by reciting a powerful word by Dave Jamieson. “When all is said and done you are the instrument. When the tools and techniques have run their course – you were still the conduit” Deep inhale, slow exhale, Snap. It. Up. Ian also reminded us that your business shouldn’t come second to your personalities and that your story builds products so don’t be afraid to use yourself to build your brand.
The last speaker of the evening was Miche’Lynne Bell of MKK Bell Consulting. She gave us a great plan on how to “Get our SHIFT together” imploring us to take a true assessment of our business and urging us not to get caught up in “Shiny Object Syndrome” You know, those unyielding distractions that weigh you down and push you further and further away from your goals.
One thing I can say about all the past Melanin and Mental Health events that I have attended is they never fail to provide an opportunity for all in attendance to make genuine connections and better themselves in a relevant way. This workshop was no exception!
Here’s to a year full of Dope Goals and Dope Results!
